A Rainy Night in Boston

Young Jackie Burke, the would-be hero of my book Serpent's Curse, starts out in a pretty tough environment. He's the oldest son of Big John Burke, one of the most feared Irish mobsters in Boston. After witnessing his drunken father beating up on his mother for the umpteenth time, he strikes back one night and puts his father down.

He moves out of his house and takes over a gang of young thugs. He's heading in the same direction as his father when something awful happens one rainy night. He leaves Boston and goes into hiding in Charleston, SC, where he changes his name and starts a new life. Something powerful affects his life while he's in Charleston, sending him in a very different direction.
