They Did "What?"

There’s a lead story circulating throughout New England about a sexual predator who won $10 million in a Massachusetts state lottery game. It seems that he used some of this money to lavish gifts on a young teenage boy, who has now come forward and admitted to this man’s abuses. The offender had been convicted on 4 separate occasions (between 1974-1987) for various indecent acts on a child, and has been registered for years as a predator.

And yet the system allowed this scumbag to collect his winnings and do it all again, this time with unlimited funds. It was reported that he had bought his latest victim, not one, but two Kawasaki ATVs. The teenager admitted that this man’s gifts have kept him quiet for the past four years but he couldn’t continue any longer. The man is currently being held on $5 million bail.

So here’s the thing for me: What the hell was the state thinking when they allowed a known sexual offender to collect $10 million? Are they insane? Surely this is such an incredible case of ball-dropping by the authorities that it makes my brain explode! The state is now looking into changing the laws for lottery distribution, but it’s too little, too late. Hey Massachusetts, here’s an idea: the next time, or any time that something like this happens, how about distributing the money to the victims, or to a facility that helps these kids recover from the trauma they’ll suffer for the rest of their lives. Do some good!

On a crazier note, the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 has begun to take on a carnival-like atmosphere. The Thai Air Force doesn’t tell anybody they saw this plane on their radar screens because nobody asked, while the Malaysians pretty much did the same thing, all during the period of time when  thousands of people from all over the world were searching in the wrong place. DUH!!!!!!!!

And, to make it worse, every conspiracy theorist in the world has come out to offer their opinion on worldwide television. The sad part is that because nobody really knows what happened, the networks are looking for any morsel of information on this event to drum up their ratings! So bring it on; how about the one where somebody (seriously) suggested that this could have all been done by aliens? Crazy enough for you yet? Let’s all hope that this plane and its passengers and crew are found soon; they deserve to be at peace, something none of us will be until this plane is found.

Media, television especially, has become too dependent on the "Talking Heads" they employ. These people are interviewed on national TV and are asked for their opinions on whatever is happening at the moment. This quickly escalates from opinion to fact by thousands of people around the world, who listen attentively to these "experts" and see everything they say as Gospel truth.

I worked in advertising for many years. We called the extra spaces we had left "filler" and used these spaces to promote our company, or one of our customer's companies. National and worldwide news outlets should start putting up a warning on the screen to explain to their viewers that the person rambling on and on before them is only offering his opinion, and not fact, and that the content is basically "filler" designed to get them through a slow period when they actually have nothing factual to offer. "Tabloid news" comes to mind for me; give me the facts, please!

I apologize for rambling on and on, offering my opinion, as I'm castigating others. I try to keep my postings more on the lighter side, but sometimes I'm overwhelmed by the degree of insanity surrounding all of us every day. So, next week I'll go back to dishing up more humorous copy, I promise! But before I go I'll lighten it up a bit.

Man: "Doc, I can't stop singing 'The green, green grass of home.'"
Doc: "That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome."
Man: "Is it common?"
Doc: "It's not unusual."

I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day, but I couldn't find any.

Hope you all had a great St. Paddy's Day and stayed out of trouble! Here's my favorite leprechaun!
